What a week that was!

Last week was crazy….but really good.

I had been contacted by Not on the High Street (https://www.notonthehighstreet.com) on the 11th June to ask if I might be interested in ‘yarn bombing’ a pillar at this years ‘Make, Do & Meet’ awards on the 21st June. Of course I said yes, I have never yarn bombed anything before and really don’t know why.

They said great we will be back in touch, they were and had decided that the pillar needed something special and sent me a brief on the 14th June. However they needed it to arrive with them on the 20th June, so it needed to be posted on the 19th…..time was getting short, I started making the first hanging on the Sunday (16th), then on the Monday they asked if I could make a second hanging…God, I now realise that I really do like a challenge, because I said yes!!!

Now I needed a little help, Jess stepped in, I crocheted all day & evening on Monday, plus Tuesday. Jess added the pom poms and tassels and on Tuesday evening I started on the second hanging, I had a picture in my mind of how I wanted this second hanging to look. I had followed the brief for the first hanging and had free reign on the second, but at 10pm decided that I did’nt like it, I then had the idea of making a giant ‘granny square’ I made one and realised that this was the direction to take.

So first thing in the morning, I made another square, but then had the morning routine and school run to do. As soon as I got to work I started on the next square, each square was taking me around half an hour to make and we had a courier booked to collect the hangings after 2pm, I made as many as I could by 1pm then Jess & I sewed them together. We had 8 finished squares, but I felt they needed something else, so I quickly crocheted along the top and bottom of the squares, by now it was 2.15 and I still thought it needed something else, pom poms! as you all know I love pom poms, we had a few made already from other projects so started to attach them, then the courier arrived, bless him he was so good and waited for me to finish.

Phew, two hangings in 4 days (this included us processing a mound of orders and normal life stuff). On Friday Milly & I set off early to attend the ‘Make’ Do & Meet’ awards which were held in The Brewery in The City of London https://www.thebrewery.co.uk/

Everything about the day was great, it was a thrilled to see my hangings decorationg a pillar (in the end Not on the High Street) hung both hanging on the same pillar, it did look amazing. Then the real highlight of the day was hearing Milly speak at the awards on her experience with The Princes Trust (https://www.princes-trust.org.uk/) she was so nervous beforehand but Holly Tucker (founder of Not on the High Steet - https://holly.co/) was amazing and Milly looked and sounded like she did public speaking all the time. We both had to leave early as Milly was then catching a train to Cornwall & I needed to get back to Somerset for a wedding we going to the next day.

I loved that day & week and will try and do more ‘yarn bombing’ in the future.
